Jessie Wilcox Smith became one of the most celebrated illustrators of the early twentieth century, shaping the visual language of children’s publishing and magazine art. After beginning her career as a kindergarten teacher, Smith pursued formal training in Philadelphia and studied with influential illustrator Howard Pyle. Through expressive color and gentle storytelling, she created memorable scenes of childhood, family, and everyday wonder.
