Curations We Love

Inspired By: The Art Basel “Banana Incident”

You’ve likely seen the news about the now infamous event that took place at Art Basel Miami this past weekend. It was at Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan’s exhibit entitled “Comedian” where the bite heard ‘round the world was taken — in fact, probably the most expensive bite the art world has ever seen.

Cattelan’s work, showcasing a banana duct-taped to a wall, was valued at an astounding $120,000. Stunned viewers watched as self-proclaimed “performance artist” David Datuna approached the piece, tore it off the wall, and ate it.

Whether intended as a statement on the art world or simply an act of pure absurdity, we took inspiration from the viral event and curated the gallery below. Check it out to find something you might just want to peel through and enjoy. Stay hungry, art lovers!
