Artists to Know: 10 Female Artists We Love

Since 2018, we’ve been proudly supporting the National Museum of Women in the Arts’ initiative to increase representation and awareness of female artists. To further help their year-long #5WomenArtists campaign, we’re keeping the conversation going by once again featuring 50 women artists throughout Women’s History Month. We hope you’ll discover a new favorite female creator (or five).

From fantasy fans to fashion aficionados, these 10 female artists aim to bring playful whimsy, feminine flair, and more types of energy into their work. With a variety of illustrations, photography, and mixed media portraiture, some take inspiration from their childhood while others are captivated by the world around them.

Whether you vibe with mid century modern designs, classic vintage style, powerful surreal scenes, or inspirational colorful phrases, the work from these 10 women artists ranges from uplifting and lighthearted to bold and empowering. 1. Lolita Lorenzo

Kenyan-American artist Carol Muthiga-Oyekunle was inspired to start the Lolita Lorenzo brand during her excursions across Africa. Her pieces are heavily influenced by the “rich, vibrant colors and graphic prints found in many of the textile markets”, along with the traditional women of the region. As a fashion designer, her prints mainly focus on stylish, surreal headpieces. From flourishing floral hair to confident archangels to strong sunglass warriors, we think her artwork can help you create an empowering and cultural atmosphere.

2. Donna Mibus

Inspired by the home decor catalogs she admired in the ‘60s as a child, Donna Mibus creates playful room scenes. Featuring funky furniture and geometric shapes, she strives to make people happy through her fun artwork. To further add to the lighthearted nature of her style, she also includes a recurring theme of dogs and black cats lounging on chairs, tabletops, and bookshelves. 3. Leah Giberson

Based in Boston, Leah Giberson creates photorealistic scenes of mid century suburban homes, shiny campers, and other outdoor displays. She is especially focused on the detailed reflections and shadows within trailers, saying that she likes to “piece together (imagined) underlying stories of the trailers themselves and those who might live inside them or store them out back”. 4. Carla Seaton

Washington artist Carla Seaton aims to radiate positivity through her brightly colored art of inspirational females, motivational phrases, and cute animals. Including themes such as friendship and sisterhood, she hopes to spread cheerful messages of love with her delightful scenes. From displays of personal strength to sentiments of happiness to sweet, heartfelt connections, her artwork is full of joyful energy. 5. Jade Merien

Jade Merien illustrates surreal animals with an excitingly electrifying touch.
