Zak Mohammed: Trippy & Expressive Paintings of People

Starting with the Stonewall riots in 1969, Pride Month is prevalent for LGBTQ+ civil rights and justice. While we acknowledge and support LGBTQ+ rights no matter what time of year, we wanted to celebrate Pride Month by spotlighting a different LGBTQ+ artist each Thursday during June. We hope you discover a new favorite creator!

iCanvas is thrilled to offer prints by Zak Mohammed, whose multi-colored paintings hone in on the male form, intimate LGBTQ+ relationships, and powerful poses. With a mix of portraiture and full body displays, his art captures a range of raw emotions and connections. With a visually intense spectrum of colors and subjects, his work showcases bold expressiveness with a touch of trippy feels.

After escaping oppression in the Middle East by moving to North America, he was finally able to be open about his sexuality and live without fear. This personal freedom is shown throughout his work – for most of his art, he only uses the six colors of the LGBTQ+ flag to represent both the community as a whole and his own journey. These hues are not only a direct depiction of the flag, but they also shine a light on the same sex couples displayed in much of his artwork.

While most of his pieces use that very specific color scheme, he also has some black and white paintings in his collection. With a toned down appearance, they offer a more thoughtful, rather than energetic, aesthetic without compromising the dramatic impact achieved with his more vibrant prints. Between the intense pigments and the subtle images, all of his art focuses on the significance of feeling empowered by who you are – which is something you’ll see in the curation below.

From kissing trios to primal embraces, each print reveals confident and passionate people. Whether it’s a balanced handstand pose, a full frontal nude model, or a closeup of a peaceful face, his poignant prints are full of vulnerability and openness. Making his artwork a great way to add dramatic introspection and vivid vibes to your space.
