4 Artists Living in Colorado

These four artists living in Colorado create art in four different ways. Given their unique life experiences and artistic journeys, we’d expect nothing less! From scenic and captivating to imaginative and dark, we’re looking at four artists and the way they’re influenced, or not, by residing in the Centennial State.

With such magnificent mountains, idyllic ski resorts, and variety of outdoor activities, Colorado is full of adventure. It makes sense that artists calling this western state home would be inspired by their beautiful natural environment. While we often see Colorado art highlighting famous national parks, snowy cabins, and Denver cityscapes, artists can find inspiration in a variety of places. Sometimes, where you’re from drives what you create, but that’s not always the case.

From old-fashioned nightlife to tattooed females, the work from these artists can bring vintage liveliness, dark whimsy, and more types of vibes. Whether you prefer pop surreal portraits or impressionist paintings, keep scrolling to find a new favorite artist.

1. OLena Art

Inspired by her still-life painter father, OLena Art’s impressionist paintings and photography feature nature scenes and wildlife. Revealing direct inspiration from her state, her mix of paintings and photos showcase captivating Colorado landscapes, mountains, forests, and wild bison. Capturing the true beauty of the natural scenery in her home area, she pulls us into magnificent views.

From a panorama of the Maroon Bells to a moose crossing over a sleeping meadow, we think her artwork can be a beautiful way to appreciate the magnificence of this state.

2. Nicoleta Paints

Aiming to bring joy to viewers, Denver-based artist Nicoleta Paints’ mixed media art features animals, botanicals and other elements of nature. With only some direct Colorado influence seen in her work, she showcases mountain scenes along with bright and bold wildflowers native to the location. The rest of her collection focuses on bright southwest scenes with cacti and colorful flowers, often capturing the energy of New Mexico.

From a Frida-inspired schnauzer portrait to a retro cactus creation, we think her artwork can be a lovely way to add a vivid dose of the wild west to your space.

3. Keith Oelschlager

Inspired by the Golden Age of Illustration and the modern world of comic books, movie posters, and pop culture, Keith Oelschlager’s Limited Edition paintings feature famous city scenes, landmarks, and other familiar places. With no obvious Colorado influence, he focuses on other locations such as New York and Paris, along with lively scenes of carnivals, hotels, theaters, and more. Often including glowing lights and realistic details, he brings us into fun nightlife and busy streets.

From a jazz band at Preservation Hall to the outside of the Royal Opera in Paris, we think his artwork can be a lovely way to create a vintage atmosphere.

Showcasing these ladies with tattoos, botanicals, nature, and sometimes skeletons, there’s no clear Colorado impact seen in her pop surreal artwork. Capturing her subjects’ personalities with big, defined eyes and symbolic surroundings, she reveals a mix of imaginative themes.
