Illustrator Arthur Rackham is known for his pen and ink fantasy drawings featured in many famous novels, including Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carol, Rip Van Winkle by Washington Irving and Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift. As he perfected his illustration technique he also began to incorporate a subtle use of watercolors, which could begin to be reproduced due to the developments of photographic reproduction during his era of the early 20th century.
