The Death of the Virgin, 1601-06 - Canvas Print

Grief fills every corner of this candlelit scene, where the Virgin Mary lies still in a crimson gown as apostles crowd close, weeping openly with their heads bowed and hands clasped. A woman in terracotta orange collapses in the foreground while a heavy swath of red drapery looms overhead, and harsh light cuts through the darkness to catch every raw, tear streaked face. The Death of the Virgin brings the weight of sacred sorrow and human tenderness into a study, library, or formal living room as thoughtful wall art.
