Canvas Print Description

Banksy’s 2011 "Stained Glass Window Graffiti"was not designed for the street. But like the ephemeral light of stained glass windows it was intended for mass public consumption. Illuminated glass, having originated in medieval Europe adorning the inside of Gothic churches, was the original moving image media. It displayed a Biblical narrative in colored glass that came alive with the addition of the rays of the sun. Banksy’s "Stained Glass Window Graffiti"replaces the illuminating light of day with the power of mass collaboration and creativity. The artist enlisted the help of a state school in Los Angeles, asking the students to scrawl their own unique tags, designs, and messages on a series of panels placed in their school playing area. The result was a swirling mix of communication and commemoration. This particular piece played a central role in a global first: the first major American exhibition of guerilla art, urban graffiti, and street culture, at the MOCA, The Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles. Revealing the trajectory of graffiti and street art from the early 1970s to the present day, MOCA presented an array of rare works, photographic documents, and new commissions. It was in this dizzying festival of street culture that Banksy decided to display a work of devotional adoration to the graffiti form. Kneeling down to pray, his hooded worshipper cuts an ambiguous figure. With a clumsy paintbrush in hand it is hard to tell if he is about to contribute to the eternal collaboration or whitewash it and start again

Canvas Print Framing Options

Gallery Wrapped Canvas

Gallery Wrapped Canvas

All of our artwork comes gallery wrapped.  The image is stretched around the sides and stapled to the back of the wooden frame.  Your piece of art will be ready to hang, and will include an easy-to-use hanging kit.

Floating Frame

Floating Frame

A little “armor for your art” that won‘t obscure the canvas.  Your canvas print is gallery wrapped and mounted to a 2" thick, elegant, black hard wood frame.  The art is inset, leaving a 3/8" space between the art and frame, creating the illusion that your art is “floating.”

Standard Frame

Gold & Silver finish

Mottled Gold & Silver frames are hard wood with a textured metallic finish. Silver pairs well with cool colors and dark backgrounds like black or navy and will give your art a modern look. The more versatile gold frame option pairs particularly well with classic art, traditional décor, and warmer colors.
