Canvas Print Description

Clearly no stranger to controversy, Banksy’s “Graffiti Wallpaper Hanging” saw him embroiled in a like-for-like graffiti war that began with him defacing a historic piece of urban art. A piece by the legendary 1980s street artist Robbo went a quarter of a century untouched in a tunnel of the Regent’s Canal in North London. It was a fine — if slightly unremarkable — example of an early style of graffiti, and went unnoticed for much of its existence. That is until 2009, when Banksy attempted to make a comment on the whitewashing of his own works by deftly overlaying Robbo’s original with a decorator pasting grey wallpaper over the work. Despite not producing anything new for over a decade, Robbo remained a respected individual within the secretive, insular graffiti art community. Needless to say, the purists raised hell. Already the subject of derision and criticism for his wealth and fame, Banksy soon became the target of an investigation into the ethics of street art. Before the debate could get into full swing Robbo struck back with a response, painting a tag across the surface of Banksy’s appropriation. And back and forth the spat went. Reportedly the feud began in the early 1990s when Banksy and Robbo met at a house party. Pretending not to know Robbo or his reputation, the old hand struck Banksy in the face to jog his memory. Sadly, the matter was settled when Robbo fell into a coma and Banksy threw up a temporary dedication to his erstwhile nemesis. Despite its claims for cohesion and unity, the graffiti community is not always as tight as it seems.

Gallery Wrapped Canvas

Gallery Wrapped Canvas

All of our artwork comes gallery wrapped.  The image is stretched around the sides and stapled to the back of the wooden frame.  Your piece of art will be ready to hang, and will include an easy-to-use hanging kit.

Floating Frame

Floating Frame

A little “armor for your art” that won‘t obscure the canvas.  Your canvas print is gallery wrapped and mounted to a 2" thick, elegant, black hard wood frame.  The art is inset, leaving a 3/8" space between the art and frame, creating the illusion that your art is “floating.”

Standard Frame

Standard Frame

Draw their eyes into the art with a classic frame.  Your canvas print will be gallery wrapped and then carefully encased with a contemporary black hard wood frame. Only available for select .75" thick sizes.
