Canvas Print Description

In a knowing nod to his own sudden poster-print popularity, Banksy hijacks a familiar image from another user-friendly commercial artist: Jack Vettriano. Sneered at by anyone in the know, Vettriano’s twee and pleasant prints are bland and vapid wall adornments that struggle to free themselves from their own uninspired malaise. In "Dancing Butler On A Toxic Beach With Crude Oil‘the artist stages an intervention on the popular Vettriano print Singing Butler by expertly diverting the situation to one on a beach stricken with spilled oil. Behind the nonchalant couple rescue crews struggle to contain the fallout of the environmental catastrophe while the insipid scene carries on regardless. By working with the very ‘found objects’ of commercial, unit-shifting fine art, Banksy is able to critique the inertia and absentmindedness that goes hand-in hand with the blasé following of fashion. Having first appeared in Banksy’s 2005 Westbourne Park show, "Dancing Butler On A Toxic Beach With Crude Oil"coincided with a new direction for the artist; in which he discarded the spray can in favor of new forms, objects, and interventions. In this notorious exhibition the artist unleashed 140 live rats into the gallery space, scrawled Dada-esque adaptions over the classics of Western art, all the while painting a morbid picture of cultural decay and cultural vandalism wherein the graffiti artist is cast as the savior rather than the perpetrator. "Dancing Butler On A Toxic Beach With Crude Oil"takes the elements of the artist’s street comment-pieces and adapts them to deconstruct the iconographies of the mainstream.

A little “armor for your art” that won‘t obscure the canvas.  Your canvas print is gallery wrapped and mounted to a 2" thick, elegant, black hard wood frame.  The art is inset, leaving a 3/8" space between the art and frame, creating the illusion that your art is “floating.”
