Kazimir Severinovich Malevich Painting Painter Biography

K azimir Severinovich Malevich (1879-1935) was a Russian painter and theoretician. He was a founder of geometric abstract art and the creator of the Avant-garde Suprematist movement. As an artist his works were experimental and stood out from among other artists’ works. He also inspired others to try something new with their art rather than to have to follow the ongoing trend. He was baptized in the Roman Catholic Church and his father was the manager or a sugar factory. Kazimir was the eldest of his thirteen siblings; however only eight of them lived to see their adulthood. The publishing of his manifesto, ‘From Cubism to Suprematism’ was a groundbreaking work that established the foundation of Suprematism. Some of his popular Suprematist works are Black Square (1915) and White on White (1918). Some Ukrainian authors claim that he was inspired by the traditional Ukrainian culture for the Suprematist movement. Malevich was also awarded “1A-a world famous artist” in United Art Rating, the highest category. His works have been sold in some of the highest auction prices. Black Square was sold for $250,000 and his work entitled Suprematist Composition was sold for just over $60 million U.S, a record high.
